Big Birthday Celebrations

It seems like I have put a birthday hat on almost every animal however it wasn’t until I was brainstorming a birthday card design for a friend’s mum that I realised I’d never made an elephant birthday card. I’d definitely never put an elephant in a party hat!  I didn’t really know why considering elephants like these are some of the most popular greetings cards. I said I’d mock one up and see what my friends thought.

They were happy and I was even happier to alter the design slightly and add this fun card design to my stock. It picks up the same sparkly theme as my cupcakes and ice creams and uses some of my favourite summery colours. I am drawn to anything in these bright pastels!

This birthday card has already stemmed a number of other ideas that I plan to work on soon!

I hope you have a very good weekend!

Lollipop Lollipop

Last week I shared my sweet treats greeting card which was inspired by a visit to a local sweet shop. This lollipop, a larger version of the one on that card, is just as colourful with summery pastels and glittery white sprinkles. This lollipop comes wrapped in thin, clear plastic too!

It can be customised in any colour and is just as perfect for a party invitation as it is as a greetings card. If you're interested, please do get in touch.

Happy Monday!

Pocket Rocket

Looking up at the sky at night and seeing the moon, it is incredible to think that humans have been there. Space travel is pretty remarkable.

By coincidence I had just finished reading The Martian when I first made this card. That's not especially relevant but it is still worth a read! I’ve since made this rocket in a range of other colours and it works well as an invitation too. I make each rocket by hand from textured and sparkly papers and this design stands forward from the card.

Have a great week!

Love Blossoms!

I made this Japanese blossom greetings card a couple of months ago for a wedding in May. I was asked to make a card that picked up on the themes of the invitation which also featured paper cranes and blossom.

When I was first asked to make this wedding card I had visions of myself trying to conjure tiny little origami cranes out of paper. I abandoned that idea, and instead I layered small cut out paper parts to create the focal point of this design.

I framed the two cranes with two branches of Japanese cherry blossom. I used black for the branches in the style of some traditional Japanese art and design and I think this, with the white background, makes the other colours pop. For the blossom I combined my usual textured papers with sparkly pink and pearl centres.

I enjoyed making this wedding card. It was an opportunity to work with a theme in my style and try something I hadn’t done before. Custom orders are always fun!

I hope you had a good weekend!

Dirt Bike

It is always nice to send and receive a personalised greetings card. More often than not the cards I am asked to make as custom orders are something to do with the recipient’s hobbies. This card was no different. I made it at the end of last year for someone who rides dirt bikes in her spare time.

It is made using textured blue paper and silver card, with sparkly thread on the bike’s wheels and chain.

Happy Friday!

Shoes and Make Up

Last year, particularly at Christmas, I really enjoyed attending new and different craft fairs. I had tables at events I’d never been to before and I was also invited to a few private occasions. It was nice to experience each one and they all had their own charm.

It is always nice to meet the people who buy your creations and everyone is always so positive. You sometimes get a little tale from their day or an explanation for their purchase - one of my favourites is still the lady who had become a grandmother for the first time just that day!

For a similar reason I like taking custom orders in person and this make up greetings card was one of them. It was for a shoe and make up loving niece!

I probably say this about everything but I really enjoyed making this because I personally don’t tend to opt for pink and sparkly, and I don’t wear high heels either!

I hope that you’ve had a good start to the week!
